HAPPY BUCKS
√ Lots of Happy Bucks to say” thank you” and “great day” to Kay and Larry Hurren…Hilda, Al N., Dave A., Jodi, Carol, Marsha, Al F.
√ Hilda shared a Happy/Sad buck because she and Al Nason had recently enjoyed lunch and a visit with their former director of nursing and sadly, she passed away soon after.
√ Dave A. welcomed Colin Carrie to our club.
√ Andy was happy about our 2 cooks at the barbecue and also his ear has healed nicely and he has a “clean bill of health”.
√ Carol was happy about our 2 cooks too.
√ Jodi shared that Bob Chapman, board member for Big Brothers Big Sisters Oshawa Whitby, contributed to our fund to
purchase school supplies for Mary Street P.S. Also, Jodi’s step-father did the same.
Also, she and Dave will bring their Model T to auto-fest in Oshawa this weekend.
√ Larry was pleased to have everyone at his summer home for the barbecue and he also wondered if Ellie May Clampett
was joining us when he saw the Model T coming.
√ Lennis took his ’61 Olds to Peterborough to show it to the former owner. When he did a Rotary meeting as a make-up, he was surprised that the speaker was one of our club members.
√ Marsha had car trouble after our barbecue get-together, but thankfully was able to make it to a friend’s house.
√ President Al does not want a specific picture from our barbecue to be published in The Star! (Ed.’s note: How about The Inquirer?)

ROTARY MOMENT
Shawn shared that he has been involved in community groups for a long time, through Scouts and through family involvement. He was invited (harassed?) by Lennis to join our club and has been very pleased for the opportunities of leadership growth, and especially for the fellowship. He also is very proud to be part of the project to eradicate polio.
GUEST SPEAKER :
Introduced by: David Andrews
Colin Carrie, MP, spoke about his time as MP in the House of Commons from 2004 to the present. He shared some “background” about the camaraderie (not always apparent to TV viewers), some unusual private members’ bills and concern for Ontario’s debt.
He extended an invitation to come to the House of Commons and also expressed his deep pride and gratification to be an MP.
Thanked By: Lennis Trotter
Meeting adjourned @ 7:45
THE OBJECT OF ROTARY is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;
FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
The “ideal of service” is the key. It is an attitude that does not change from one version to the next. It is an attitude we all have, as Rotarians.
IF YOU CAN’T MAKE IT, MAKE UP : Pat Dyck, our Club Secretary has a Rotary International Directory of all Rotary Clubs in the world, when and where they meet. Please mail or fax your make-ups to Pat Dyck, or give your make-up card to the attendance/registration officer at the next club meeting.
