Welcome Safety Village Board & Friends
Will L. introduced PC Vanessa Ford who provided an interesting 2025 yearly in review.
KSV is a shining example that other Safety Villages across US & Canada strive to achieve. At a conference in Florida, everyone wanted to know about our events and how to boost attendance. For example, in the US they get about 2000attendees/event, and we do that on one day! Some highlights include:
- Updated classrooms (Thanks Lennis)
- Safety classes same with some timing changes
- Classes by Police, Fire, EMS, & Elexicon with new course in Human Trafficking in partnership with Victim Services of Durham Region.
- 10, 400 students went thru classes last year.
- Jeeps are back!
- Coming soon are classes in water safety, autism-focused courses, & water rescue w/o going in the water.
- In Nov anti-bullying and cyber safety start.
- New friends included Grandview & Melly’s Café.
Some numbers to be proud of include:
- Summer Drop in in August -usually 5000 come.
- 5465 attended Christmas event,
- Halloween had 6487
- Easter (even with cold!) we had 5373.
Plans for future include Working on building stronger relationship with School Boards. Last year 83 schools participated including 5 from Toronto.
