SPEAKER: City of Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter
Introduced by Dave Andrews, the Mayor was happy to be with us again this year . His speaking points included:
1. How well the city did during COVID.
2. The City has reduced its debt considerably. From 180M down to $39M currently
3. He announced the opening of a new community center in North Oshawa
4. There will be a new fire hall built in North Oshawa.
5. GM has donated 90 acres of land to the city near the lake.
6. The Oshawa fleet of vehicles will be converted to electric vehicles.
7. GO train East is ready to start constructions.
8. They are going to change the 401 interchange at Harmony.
9. He was proud that the unemployment rate is lower than the average rate for Ontario.
10.The future of the auto industry is looking very positive.
11. Speaking about the homeless in Oshawa he indicated he will not tolerate lawlessness in the city.
During Q/A session he mentioned about recycling car batteries; new companies coming to the city; 80 Bond street is an example of one of many high class projects that we will get for Oshawa; and an Urban park that will be built at Bond and Simcoe.. He also mentioned that Rotary Park (Centre Street S in Oshawa) will have a complete makeover including a new pool.
