ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • Dave A. Reverse Draw Update: The tickets are printed, and we are ready for sales! Dave compiled lists of previous purchases and distributed them to members via email. Tickets are $150.00 each. Thanks to Tess’s daughter, Rachel, we have an improved sponsorship and donation request letter that we all can use to help us sell tickets. The letter gives each purchaser four options: 1) buy a ticket, 2) donate a Silent Auction item, 3) become a platinum, gold, silver or bronze sponsor, or 4) a combo of these choices.
  • Ted M. Reverse Draw Silent Auction. It is never too early to start collecting items for our Silent Auction. This money-maker is critical to our Reverse Draw. Auction items should be worth about $100, and remember, experiences sell best! So, a spa day, golf outing, or sports tickets are great options.
  • Dave A. Night of A Thousand Dinners January 29. This Oshawa Rotary-sponsored event raises money to eradicate landmines across the globe. This year’s keynote speaker is Ms. Olivia Fernandes, Landmine Foundation Board Member. Tickets are $130.00 and can be purchased through e-Transfer using oshawarotaryclub@rogers.com.
  • Ted M. Maple Syrup. We made $7000 with this last year, and we sell out! Price is the same - $25/litre bottle. We expect to hear from our distributor soon. Expect delivery in March or April.
  • Ted M. Support our sister clubs’ events. Whitby Sunrise presents Savour The Flavour at Deer Creek on Feb 5. Port Hope club has Flavours of Port Hope on Feb 28.
  • Robbie L. Safety Village Spring Event. Volunteers are needed for this event on April 3 & 4. A sign-up sheet will be available in February.
  • President Dave Club Updates. Nominations for our annual Paul Harris Award recipients are now open. Please forward your suggestions to President Dave or Ted M before the end of April. Our Board secretary and social-organizer extraordinaire, Janice Coupland,
  • is taking some time off. We need a volunteer to organize our St. Patrick’s Day social on March 18. Don’t forget Bingo at the Red Barn this week.
  • Dave A. The new deadline for reserving meeting meals is Saturday. There is a new menu starting next week. Check the club calendar for updates.

ACE OF SPADES: Dave A had the ticket and drew the THREE of HEARTS ….. The pot grows…

Our Sergeant at Arms this month, the happily retired Bob Stewart, produced many raffle prizes. Winners tonight included Tess (a charcuterie board), and Bill Creamer, Bob Koski, and Robbie all won corkscrews. But the big winner was Shashi, who took the Trump 2024 hat right off Mr. Stewart’s head.

  • Ted thanked us for the plant he received when recovering from his surgery.

  • Larry: Looking forward to his church’s Robbie Burns lunch on Jan 23. It will be complete with haggis, pipers, and poetry.

  • Bill C. His house is readied for sale, and he is happy to be rid of the stairs when he moves to Lynn Creek.

  • Dave A.: He was happy to attend his first Lacrosse game that honored the legendary Green Gaels.

  • Tess: Proud to announce the last CT scan was ‘unremarkable’!

  • Robbie: What a great holiday, and he recently enrolled in the OSCC+55 and will take a woodworking class.

  • Bev: is vacationing in Mexico in February. She recently received a service award from the retirees at school. Her New Year’s resolution is to toot her own horn!

  • Shashi:  Happy New Year to her friends and family and she is sure her new hat will be a collector’s item.

  • Don: Happy New Year!

 

 

Board of Directors- Quarterly Updates to Club

President Dave M

Janice Coupland is taking a Leave of Absence. Hilda Finnigan agreed to take over the role of Board Secretary. We need someone to step up and organize the St. Patrick’s Day Social on March 18. We will again be at the annual Peony Festival in June. The 2026 District 7070 Rotary Youth Leadership Symposium (RYLS) is in April. The Application deadline is Feb 28, 2026. Hilda suggested that we support at least one student. Amandeep & Bev agreed to select and vet student applicants. Our cost to support each student we send is 379$ + HST.

Treasurer Linda P

A successful fundraising season with over $7000 raised so far. The Bingo revenue is down a bit but that is not our fault. Attendance at the Red Barn was down. We recently helped a 5-year-old child to get a new wheelchair through our collaboration with Partners In Service. The Participation House event came in under budget and was still a success. A complete financial report is available.

 

VP Tess

The date for the 50th anniversary gala is set for Tuesday, Sept. 29, here at the golf club. An Ad Hoc committee of Shashi, Emmy, Neil, Yvonne, and Bev will meet soon to work out the details.

 

Exec. Secretary Dave A

Things are running smoothly. He noted that 19 members have still not signed into My Rotary. He will organize an information session later in the year to improve participation.

 

Community Service Camille

No report. Things are going well.

 

Foundation Donald

We are doing well in our foundation goals in Polio. We need more participation in Every Rotarian Every Year and the General Foundation fund.

 

Membership Shashi

Plans on continuing vetting and inviting new members, and requests help from members in identifying potential new members. We are all Rotary Ambassadors. The annual BBQ is planned for late July or early August. Stay tuned.

 

Club Administration Robbie

We need desk coverage in February and April. Doing this helps new members meet and get to know everyone. We also need someone (a small committee perhaps?) to take over the member wellness checks that Lennis has done so well for so long.

 

 

International Service David P

This very busy committee has funded projects in Uganda (water project), Shelter Box, Dominican Republic water project, Hippo Rollers in South Africa, Haiti’s Little Footprints/Big Steps, and a literacy project in West Bengal. Next week we will be treated to an update from WAKAM - Western Alliance of Kenya Against Malaria.

 

Public Image Dave A for Al Finnigan

This is a busy committee with many responsibilities. One obstacle is Rotary Brand compliance. A committee to prepare a PI plan includes Suzz, Amandeep, Camille, and Dave A. Things we need to focus on include social media and mainstream media exposure. The T-shirts and Golf shirts were a hit, and we will offer them again later in the year.
