Meeting Called to Order at 6:31 PM: by President Robbie Larocque.

Land Acknowledgement:

We respectfully acknowledge that we are hosting this Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood meeting from land within the jurisdiction of Williams Treaties and on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nations, the Anishnaabe, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples. This acknowledgement reminds us of our responsibilities to our relationships and the ancestral lands on which we learn, share and live.

We had two Rotarian guests visiting from the Rotary E Club of Thane Smartcity, in Rotary District 3142 ( near Mumbai)

President Mandar Bhalero and his wife, and fellow Rotarian Dr. Priyank Thakur Bhalero.

ACE OF SPADES:

 The ticket drawn tonight was John Kellam’s ticket and he drew THE ACE OF SPADES!!!

CONGRATULATIONS John. John donated his winnings to the annual fund of the Rotary Foundation.      

 

Happy Bucks:

  • Robbie was happy his wife was finally able to climb the stairs after her knee replacement. Things are progressing nicely.

  • Hilda and Al are happy they are helping at Oshawa’s Ribfest.

  • Dave is happy to have the Mayor her tonight s our speaker.

  • John remembers seeing the Rockettes at the CNE when he was very young. They impressed him.

  • Al is happy to have Hilda back home.

  • Mandar and his wife Pryianka are pleased to be visiting with us tonight..Mandar is the President of his club back home in India

  • Bob is happy to remember kids eating candy floss at the CNE.

 

Announcements :

1 Oshawa Rotary Club is asking for volunteers to help with their Ribfest Aug 12-14. Call Karen Dick if you can do it.

2. Sept 11-17 is Service Club Week. We will look for a project that we can do with Lions, Optimists, and other service clubs.

3. Rotary Foundation Walk. Keep this morning open on September 25. We are one of the host clubs so we should have a good tunout.– 8:30 am to 1:00 PM - CULLEN CENTRAL PARK 300 Taunton Road West, Whitby, ON L1N 5R5

4. Get your Orange Shirt for 30th of September- Orange Shirt Day and the national Day of Truth and Reconciliation! Our newest Rotary Club, Rotary Club G.O.A.L.S. is having their first Fundraiser. It is the sale of orange t-shirts, the proceeds from the sale of the orange t-shirts will support Indigenous charities and our own charitable account. Please see the flyer attached for details. The Rotary Club of G.O.A.L.S. appreciates your support!

6. OCT 20 – WORLD POLIO DAY IN DURHAM REGION - 7:00 pm to 8:15 pm –  joint meeting of Durham

                 Region Rotary Clubs and co-hosted by the Rotary Clubs of Oshawa and Oshawa-Parkwood, in the Rotary

                 Global Classroom in the new Centre for Collaborative Education at Durham College where we will celebrate

                 World Polio Day with leaders from around the world. This is one of District 7070’s premier events in the Rotary

                  year : The Rotary Foundation's Polio Eradication Initiative to END POLIO NOW.  

                 Be sure to invite you spouse, relatives, business associates, and prospective members and all clubs in District

                 7070. We will see the live Rotary International livestream event and we will also broadcast our event live to

                 Rotary Clubs and to Universities and colleges worldwide.

                 All clubs in the District are invited. Proclamations from City and Region to our clubs. We will connect with

                PolioPlus Volunteers and special guests from around the world. Be sure to REGISTER TODAY on the District

AUGUST 30 SOCIAL NIGHT – SPOUSES INVITED –  Lawn Bowling  (Oshawa  Lawn Bowling Club, 150 Beatrice St E,  Oshawa, ON L1G 7T6) (6:30 to 7:30)  followed by Dinner at One Eyed Jacks ( 33 Taunton Rd W, Oshawa, ON L1G 7B4 ) (7:30 to 8:30).
