Mary Street School gets Supplies for the Students

For the third year in a row, the Rotary Club of Oshawa - Parkwood has donated school supplies to students at Mary Street Public School in Oshawa, to help them get a good start to their school year, announced Jodi Hewett, President of the Rotary Club of, Oshawa-Parkwood.

“The school supplies, which included, pencils, rulers, and paper, were purchased from funds raised form our own Rotary Club members who dug deep down into their pockets. The response from our members was overwhelming. This year, we were able to hand out 200 back-to-school packages to all 200 children at the school“, she said.

“Literacy is one of Rotary’s major point of focus for the 1.2 million Rotarians world-wide, and the Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood is helping students get a good start on their education”, she added.

“This not the first time we have worked with the staff here at Mary Street Public School. In the late 1970’s, the Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood paid for the main Community Sign that sits in front of the school at the corner of William and Mary Streets. The sign is used by community groups to announce the many community activities in and around the Mary Street school. And we are very pleased that it is still in good use today”, Ms. Hewett said.

Rotary is an organization of business and professional men and women, united worldwide, with more than 1.2 million members in over 200 countries, providing humanitarian service, building goodwill and peace in the world.  The Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood has been serving the Durham Region for 35 years through various fund raising endeavors.
