We're made up of local business, professional, and civic leaders. 

We meet regularly, get to know each other, form friendships and through that, we're able to get things done in our community.

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY

is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

SECOND High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful

occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

THIRD The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;

FOURTH The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of

business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Rotary Code of Conduct provides a framework for ethical behaviour that all Rotarians can use, together with The Four-Way Test, in their business and professional activities.

ROTARY CODE OF CONDUCT

As a Rotarian, I will

1. Exemplify the core value of integrity in all behaviours and activities
2. Use my vocational experience and talents to serve in Rotary
3. Conduct all of my personal, business, and professional affairs ethically, encouraging and fostering high ethical standards as an example to others
4. Be fair in all dealings with others and treat them with the respect due to them as fellow human beings
5. Promote recognition and respect for all occupations which are useful to society
6. Offer my vocational talents: to provide opportunities for young people, to work for the relief of the special needs of others, and to improve the quality of life in my community
7. Honour the trust that Rotary and fellow Rotarians provide and not do anything that will bring disfavour or reflect adversely on Rotary or fellow Rotarians
8. Not seek from a fellow Rotarian a privilege or advantage not normally accorded others in a business or professional relationship

• Tess: Committee sign up sheet was distributed and Tess will email this week with their choices. New members are part of the new member committee. Mentioned about the Thank You letter we received from the Alzheimer’s Society. 

• Hilda : announced about the Rotary Club  T shirts that are available for sale $15. She also mentioned about the Rotary shirt – size L that was being offered for free. 

• Camille: Mentioned about the Thank You letter she received for our club from The Denise House.

• Robbie : Mentioned that the club administration committee had decided on the Social at One Eyed Jack , Oshawa. The sign up sheet was circulated.

ROTARY MOMENT  - from Past District Governor Ted Morrison

Rotary’s Youth Exchange Program

Ted spoke about the Rotary’s oldest continuous programme. Started in 1929 by the Rotary Club of Copenhagen and continues today worldwide.

The Rotary Youth Exchange program is far more than a travel opportunity . It is a lifechanging experience that shapes future leaders. It creates life long ambassadors for peace and goodwill. The Rotary Club of Oshawa- Parkwood has hosted several exchange students over the years. The last one was Juri Arai from Japan fifteen years ago. He asked the club to re commit to this program and encouraged members to talk to our own Rotarian Camille about what youth exchange gave her and how it changed her life.

ANOTHER HISTORIC NIGHT FOR THE ROTARY CLUB OF OSHAWA-PARKWOOD

Induction of two new members :

1. Olaleye Oluwaolorunlanke
2. Michael Jones

Olaleye is a past President of the Rotary Club of Magodo Central in Lagos, Nigeria . Shashi Bhatia Olaleye’s proposer introduced him to all the members present.

Michael comes to us from the Rotaract Club of Barrie. Michael is originally from Midhurst, but moved down to the Durham region for work (taking part in the refurbishment of the Pickering nuclear generating station) He was a devoted member of Barrie Rotaract for close to 3 years. Dave Andrews introduced Michael to all the members present.

Welcome to Our Speaker: Julie Van Hartingsveldt, CFRE, MA Executive Director DURHAM Children's Aid Foundation

Julie shared about the foundation and the impact our support helps create, and the remarkable legacy of Sharon Clark. Sharon's connection to our Rotary Club and the club's continued support in her honour.

Last year, Sharon was inducted into the Oshawa Walk of Fame.

That recognition honoured not only what Sharon personally contributed, but also the community of people she inspired.

Her legacy lives through her friends, through Sharon's Kids, through longstanding partners like General Motors, and through this Rotary club's annual support in her honour.

That is a powerful example of how one person's compassion can continue to create impact long after the original idea began."

Durham Children's Aid Foundation works in partnership with Durham Children's Aid Society.

The Society is responsible for child protection and statutory services. The Foundation helps provide the opportunities, experiences and practical supports that public funding does not fully cover.

Bev thanked the speaker and mentioned about the donation we would make for Polio on her behalf.
