We're made up of local business, professional, and civic leaders.

We meet regularly, get to know each other, form friendships and through that, we're able to get things done in our community.

It's up to YOU.............Join leaders in our community

Be sure to share this with all of your friends and associates and ask them to get in touch with our Membership Chair Linda Porritt at 905-626-6386 or our Membership Director Lennis Trotter at 905-985-0963 or our Club President Mike McLaren at 905-571-4222.

You are invited to our next Rotary meeting. You may wish to become a Rotarian. Dinner is on us. Isn't it time to give back to your community?.

2016-2017 ROTARY THEME: “ROTARY – SERVING HUMANITY”

ROTARY INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT: John Germ – Rotary Club of Chttanooga, Tennessee,USA

R.I. DISTRICT 7070 GOVERNOR: Jim Louttit - Rotary Club of Toronto-Sunrise in Toronto, Ontario, Canada

ASSISTANT DISTRICT 7070 GOVERNOR: Beth Selby – Rotary Club of Belleville in Belleville, Ontario, Canada

ROTARY – People of Action

Rotary is where neighbors, friends, and problem-solvers share ideas,

join leaders, and take action to create lasting change.

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY

is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

SECOND High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful

occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

THIRD The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;

FOURTH The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of

business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Rotary Code of Conduct provides a framework for ethical behavior that all Rotarians can use, together with The Four-Way Test, in their business and professional activities.

ROTARY CODE OF CONDUCT

As a Rotarian, I will

  1. Exemplify the core value of integrity in all behaviors and activities

  2. Use my vocational experience and talents to serve in Rotary

  3. Conduct all of my personal, business, and professional affairs ethically, encouraging and fostering high ethical standards as an example to others

  4. Be fair in all dealings with others and treat them with the respect due to them as fellow human beings

  5. Promote recognition and respect for all occupations which are useful to society

  6. Offer my vocational talents: to provide opportunities for young people, to work for the relief of the special needs of others, and to improve the quality of life in my community

  7. Honor the trust that Rotary and fellow Rotarians provide and not do anything that will bring disfavor or reflect adversely on Rotary or fellow Rotarians

  8. Not seek from a fellow Rotarian a privilege or advantage not normally accorded others in a business or professional relationship

  9.

THE ROTARY FOUR-WAY TEST

of things we think, say and do:

  1. Is it the truth

  2. Is it fair to all concerned?

  3. Will it build good will and better friendships?

  4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

ROTARY MOMENT

None tonight.

GUEST SPEAKER :

Ted Morrison introduced tonight’s guest speaker and craft talk by Rotarian Stanley Igboanugo.

Stanley was born in Nigeria. Arriving in Canada in 2004. Worked as a human Resources Coordinator for the Christian Horizons agency that helps support developmentally challenged children with Autism and other needs. He is a good friend of Emmy Ihem, Past President of the Rotary Club of Oshawa and from the Durham Regional Police Association who was instrumental by introducing Stanley to Rotary.

Stanley’s father was a Police Officer in Nigeria and his mother was a head mistress (Principle) at a school and together they raised 7 children and were blessed with 14 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Stanley completed high school in Nigeria.

A Catholic Priest encouraged Stanley to go to Rome, Italy to complete his Master’s Degree in 5 years at the Vatican. While there he witnessed the 1998 completion of the 16th chapel renovation. In 1997 he gave a talk about the Last Supper paintings by Michael Angelo along with a tour of the history and meaning about the paintings; and witnessed a Popes death and a New Popes resignation. He spent 14 years of his life in the Vatican as a Walker/Guide and knows all the politics.

He left the Vatican after the attempted assination of Pope John Paul II, and returned to Nigeria for 1 year of active duty in the Military. During that time he met his lovely wife; got married and had 3 daughters.

Stanley arrived in Canada in 2004. Stanley learned many languages during his summer studies that include German, Italian, Latin, English, Igbo, and Pigeon English. His summer learning languages in Europe was a good experience. One reason Stanley choose Canada to reside in was from the endorsement of the Vatican for being the most neutral place in the world.

However, Canada proved to be challenging due to its quick lifestyle which made it challenging and a struggle to adjust to the different lifestyle. To help with the isolation of being a new Canadian Stanley dedicated his time to volunteering and Joining the Durham Regional Police Services Auxiliary Service to become involved in the community and the courts. He volunteered with the Sports and Olympics to do Anti-Doping Tests on athletes. Canada has the best anti-doping program in the world. Stanley’s wife is an elementary teacher and together they have raised 3 children who have been successful in their studies.

Kris Sachdeva thanked Stanley for his informative talk and presented a certificate towards Polio Plus for a donation towards the irradiation of polio in the world.
