OSHAWA, ONTARIO --- Once again this year, as has been the tradition for over 31 years, the Rotary Club of Oshawa - Parkwood is selling Heritage Christmas Cakes and Maple Leaf Smoked Hams to raise funds for many Rotary community service projects, it was announced, today, by Andy Lyons, Past President of the Rotary Club and Chairman of the fundraising event.

The proceeds obtained for the Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood will be used to support community services such as Lakeridge Health – Oshawa, the Colonel R. S McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre, Senior Citizens, Handicapped Adults, the Kids Safety Village of Durham Region, Participation House, Grandview Children’s Centre, YMCA, the Salvation Army, Simcoe Hall Settlement House, Mary Street School, UOIT and Durham College and many other services requiring support.

“The Heritage Christmas Cakes are a three pound fruit cake, and is packaged in a gold and red box. Reasonably priced at $20.00 each, it makes for a very affordable Christmas gift,” Mr. Lyons said.

“Our customers have a choice of Maple Leaf Deli Country Kitchen boneless smoked hams. The hams, which weigh approximately 2 kilograms, can be purchased with the regular mellow smoke flavour or with a double smoke flavour in Black Forest. The purchase price for either ham from Maple Leaf Meats is a real bargain at $25.00 each” Mr. Lyons added.

The hams are firm and meaty, yet tender in texture. They contain less than 6% fat, and come from whole muscle ham with no fillers. Each ham is individually packaged in an attractive festive carton, perfect for gift giving.

“We have seen a significant increase in purchases from the business community in Oshawa, over the last few years. We thank them very much. Many corporations and companies are changing their gift giving away from alcoholic gifts to those that the whole family can appreciate.  The businesses want to treat their employees and their customers in a manner which better reflects their company’s values. And that is why the Christmas Cakes and Maple Leaf Hams have become very popular Christmas gifts for your family, friends, neighbours, employees, coworkers, or even your favourite customers,” Mr. Lyons remarked.

“In past years, we have seen businesses and companies in Oshawa and the surrounding area switch their gift giving entirely to the Cakes and Hams for their employees and their valued customers. This year will be no exception,” he added.

Orders may be placed with Rotarian Carol Reading by calling 905-728-9374 before November 24. You may also email your order to her at cally1@rogers.com . The Cakes and Hams will be available by  December 8, just in time for the gift giving season.
