For the eighth year in a row, the Rotary Club of Oshawa - Parkwood is hosting a charity dinner and theatre night at the Live Act Theatre (formerly the Class Act Dinner Theatre), 104 Consumers Drive, in Whitby, on Friday, November 7, 2015, it was announced, today, by Bob Koski, Past President of the Rotary Club and Chairman of the fundraising event.

The proceeds obtained for the Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood will be used to support many community service projects such as: Durham Regional Cancer Centre, Senior Citizens, the Kids Safety Village of Durham Region, Participation House, Grandview Children’s Centre, Eastview Boys and Girls Club, Salvation Army, Simcoe Hall Settlement House, Durham College, U.O.I.T,  the YMCA, Mary Street School and many other services.

“The doors open at 5:45 pm and the buffet dinner is served from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm with the play starting around 8:00 pm and ending about 10:00 pm. We know that everyone will enjoy a night of laughter and good food and at the same time, help our Rotary Club make a real difference to people’s lives.” Mr. Koski said.

Our fundraiser this year is the hilarious ‘Born In A Barn’ written by Kevin Riordan and featuring Kevin Riordan and Dwayne Adam .It is all about Christmas in the country. Local boy Gary Gosnell runs a Funny Farm/Eco Tourism Attraction with his new friend and former city slicker Gerry Swartz. Together the two men educate school kids and entertain seniors bus tours with their menagerie of misfit livestock. All is well with the two until the winter from hell blankets the township and tragedy upon tragedy befall poor Gary and Gerry. Worst of all they are now in danger of losing their farm.

To turn things around Gary looks to his Grandpa Teddy for inspiration and a plan to save the farm is hatched in the Barn. With the help of their faithful Mennonite farm hand and Gary’s perseverance, audiences are rewarded with bales of laughter and a happy ending when a baby is born in the barn on Christmas Day”, announced Mr. Koski.

This dinner and theatre night, recommended for adults, costs $65 per person and individual tax receipts for a portion of the ticket price will be available.

“We are very proud of our relationship with Rocky Varcoe, owner of Live Act and a Past President of the Whitby-Sunrise Rotary Club. He has a tremendously talented, hardworking team around him. Rocky has used Live Act to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for local charities. We appreciate what Rocky has done for Durham Region and we thank him for his support.” Bob Koski added.

Tickets are available from every Parkwood Rotarian or by calling Bob Koski at 905-655-4491.
