GUEST SPEAKER  :

This portion of our meeting tonight consisted of the Annual Meeting of our Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood Charitable Foundation ,  our Club’s Foundation and was conducted by Past President Devon Biddle.  Devon explained the purpose of founding the Rotary Club of Oshawa Parkwood Charitable Foundation (not to be confused with Rotary International Foundation).  Charitable receipts can be issued to those who donate to our club through our foundation.  Minutes of the meeting of Nov. 2012 were accepted as printed.  Officers of the Club Foundation are Past Presidents of the Rotary Club of Oshawa Parkwood.  Monies accumulated in this account can be utilized for our donations to other registered charities.

   Hilda Finnigan took a few minutes to explain the “challenge” being issued to Rotary Clubs in District 7070.  This challenge is to significantly “increase” the number of people who have “registered consent” to donate organs and tissue at the time of their death.  This campaign is supported by our District 7070 Governor Valarie Wafer and will be issued to all Presidents in the near future.  Oshawa Parkwood has a campaign page set up – to participate in the challenge – go to beadonor.ca/oshawaparkwoodrotary-org click on register or check consent.  From there follow the directions on the page and you will see that you are already registered or you may register at that time.  Hilda will be collecting data every three months with the help of staff from Trillium Gift of Life Network.  You should also encourage family and friends to participate in this challenge.  Let’s see what we can do as Rotarians to increase these numbers – no monetary donation required – just TWO minutes of your time.

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;

FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

The “ideal of service” is the key. It is an attitude that does not change from one version to the next. It is an attitude we all have, as Rotarians.

IF YOU CAN’T MAKE IT, MAKE UP : Pat Dyck, our Club Secretary has a Rotary International Directory of all Rotary Clubs in the world, when and where they meet. Please mail or fax your make-ups to Pat Dyck, or give your make-up card to the attendance/registration officer at the next club meeting.
