HAPPY TOONIES: (this change being encouraged in order to supplement the financial shortfall in club funds)

☺ Bob K. reviewed the “Happy Toonies” price adjustment (see above).

☺ Ted shared that he and Sharron have lawn bowling for 13/15 days.  This would be all right if they were winning  consistently, but not (yet).

☺ David A. is just back from Newfoundland where he and Judy spent time at Judy’s family home, Twillingate. They marveled at their close encounters with icebergs and whales.

☺ Robert and Caroline have just returned after two weeks in “The Land of the Living Skies”…Saskatchewan.

☺ Devon has extended an invitation for any BBQ guests to stay over in the new Biddle Treehouse!

☺ Andy is happy to share that he and Donna thoroughly enjoyed their trip to Europe with the Ontario Regiment members, in honour and remembrance of the 100th anniversary of the First World War.

☺ Shawn had a great weekend with friends, enjoying a “guys’ night out”.

☺ Walter shared about Sue’s golf experience at Wilmot Creek: she hit a house and two sheds!

☺ Mike thanked Bob K. for pointing out that the club’s V.P. oversees fundraisers, so LiveAct, here we come!

☺ Bob K. enforced some rules about pins and name badges by levying some fines.

☺ Rob shared a scary real-life story about a 170 pound bear that joined their campsite at Arrowhead.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

√ Bob K. announced that our annual fundraiser at LiveAct is on November 7th.  Tickets are $65; we must sell 180 tickets for the best financial payoff.  Presentation is:  Queen of Whitby.

√ Lennis reminded committee members of the Kids’ Safety Village meeting Aug.11th at 7:00 pm.

√ Rob: 1) our annual barbeque and get-together is at Linda & Devon’s cottage on Aug. 16th; cost is $15 per couple

            2) RLI (Rotary Leadership Institute) is September 28th at Loyalist College.

            3) “dues are due”

            4) From Rotary “Givings and Grants”, as of July 1st, 2015 there is a new model for the Foundation that allows for  5% of donations to be used for general operations.  This may be a plan that individual clubs, including ours, could follow.

ROTARY MOMENT:  none this meeting

GUEST SPEAKER:

There was no speaker, so President Robbie opened the floor for questions or comments.

1) Ted shared concerns for our club’s declining membership, especially the lack of younger people.

2) The Foundation Walk is September 21st in downtown Toronto.  This is our biggest Foundation fundraiser.

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;

FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

The “ideal of service” is the key. It is an attitude that does not change from one version to the next. It is an attitude we all have, as Rotarians.

IF YOU CAN’T MAKE IT, MAKE UP : Pat Dyck, our Club Secretary has a Rotary International Directory of all Rotary Clubs in the world, when and where they meet. Please mail or fax your make-ups to Pat Dyck, or give your make-up card to the attendance/registration officer at the next club meeting.
