 ROTARY MOMENT.
Past Presient Dave Andrews reminded us that September is New Generations month. This month , we are going to do a series of New Generations Topics for our Rotary Moments.I sent to you on Monday a look at what RYLA is all about. And how lucky we are tonight to hear from 2 RYLARIANS. And so first to the basics:
What is New Generations? New Generations refers to the youngest generation in the family of Rotary.Many are participants in Rotary’s youth and young adult programs: Interact, Rotaract, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), and Rotary Youth Exchange. Others are serviceminded young people involved in Rotary club and district activities.
Past RI President Luis Vicente Giay coined the term New Generations when he shared his belief that the future of Rotary relied on involving young people in the organization’s programs and activities.At the 1996 RI Convention in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, he said:
“Our vision for the future, now more than ever, is the difference between success and failure. The New Generations are our investment in the future. Let us begin to build that future today.” New Generations Service became Rotary’s fifth Avenue of Service in 2010. It is defined in article 5 of the Standard Rotary Club Constitution:
New Generations Service recognizes the positive change implemented by youth and young adults through leadership development activities, involvement in community and international service projects, and exchange programs that enrich and foster world peace and cultural understanding.Rotary clubs should be committed to involving youth and young adults in their vocational, community, and international service projects, and to providing programs and resources that support them.

GUEST SPEAKER  :

Name of Speakers: Haley McNamara & Abby Locke. From UOIT.( Both girls are from Whitby. They were  Introduced By: Past President Dave Andrews: Both girls are attending UOIT. Haley taking  Forensic Psychology and Abby is taking  A Bachelor of Commerce degree. Both ladies talked about their recent attendance at the RYLA program and their experiences there. They thanked Rotary for sponsoring them.
They were thanked by Past President Larry Hurren, who presented them with a certificate of the club’s donation to The End Polio Fund on their behalf.

Immediate Past President Walter Stewart closed the meeting at 7.30pm

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;
FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

The “ideal of service” is the key. It is an attitude that does not change from one version to the next. It is an attitude we all have, as Rotarians.

IF YOU CAN’T MAKE IT, MAKE UP : Pat Dyck, our Club Secretary has a Rotary International Directory of all Rotary Clubs in the world, when and where they meet. Please mail or fax your make-ups to Pat Dyck, or give your make-up card to the attendance/registration officer at the next club meeting.
